Modernization at CoxHealth Wheeler Heart and Vascular Center

The Problem

The situation at CoxHealth Wheeler Heart and Vascular Center was critical: three passenger elevators and a service elevator were all unreliable. Originally installed in 1989, the SPEC 60 Otis drive machines had been retrofitted with motor generators, degrading ride quality.

The Solution

ATIS was brought in to determine how to remedy the reliability and ride quality issues. After an extensive survey, ATIS provided a narrative report and cost estimate to modernize all four elevators, along with the associated building construction work.

The Result

ATIS developed the Request for Proposal and managed bidding. After the winning contractor was selected, the ATIS consultant provided construction administration duties, including shop drawing and product data reviews, and site visits to answer contractor and owner questions. As Missouri jurisdiction allows inspections by a licensed Qualified Elevator Inspector, the consultant also performed the final acceptance inspections, witnessed all tests, followed up on all punch lists, and submitted all documentation for the owner to obtain new operating certificates for the elevators.
